Easy access to public transport. Cinemas, Coastal park within 5 minutes walk. Varna beach - 10 minutes walk. During the SUMMER months ( the season lasts until late September) the sandy beaches and the warm sea water are a top preference for families, couples and groups of friends alike. Children love playing in the waves and they have loads of fun digging in the sand. There are beach chairs and parasol umbrellas to hide from the sun. The coast is lined with pubs and restaurants serving traditional Bulgarian food and drinks at very competitive prices. Some of the restaurants are even situated on the sand which makes them very handy when kids get tired after spending some time under the sun. After dark most of these restaurants turn into summer disco clubs serving cocktails, beer and playing hits all night long. If you prefer hiking in the woods rather than lying lazy on a beach chair, there is something for you too. One possibility is a visit to the Aladja Monastery which can make a really nice change in your routine. This is one of the few preserved and accessible rock monasteries in Bulgaria, dating from the early Middle Ages. The monastery is surrounded by woods and hikers are highly encouraged to explore the area. Another possibility for seclusion with nature is to the south and west of Varna - the Cape of Galata (3 km to the south) and 'The Stone Forest' (18 km westwards). The stone forest is one of the most incredible natural phenomena in Bulgaria. Some of the natural stone pillars (dated back to the time of the dinosaurs) reach 6 metres in height, others are up to 12 metres across at their base. Summer in Varna is a time to enjoy culture as well as nature. Varna is a host to a large number of international film, theatre music and ballet festivals. If you thought Varna was only alive in the summer, you were absolutely wrong! In WINTER there is plenty to do and see too. There are numerous museums - the most prominent one is the Archaeological Museum which is the home of the oldest manmade gold artefacts in the world dating back to 4, 500 BC. The several cinemas, theatres, the multitude of night clubs, disco clubs, bingos, casinos and bowling halls are there for you to enjoy. Some of the most famous city landmarks which you can enjoy during the winter include the Roman Baths, the Battle of Varna Park Museum, the Naval Museum and the Sea Garden. The Sea Garden is the oldest and the largest park in town containing an open-air theatre (venue of the International Ballet Competition, opera performances and concerts), an aquarium (opened 1912), a dolphinarium (opened 1984), the Nicolaus Copernicus Observatory and Planetarium, the Museum of Natural History, a terrarium, a zoo, an alpineum, a children's amusement park, and other attractions. The Garden is a national monument of landscape architecture. There is so much more you can do while staying in Varna. You will receive a full list of options and possibilities when you arrive.
